China University of Petroleum library has 3 open-shelf stack rooms covering science and technology, social sciences, and literature and art; 1 non-open-shelf stack room; 6 reading rooms about preserved copies, new books, reference documents, Chinese and foreign periodicals, electronic documents and back number magazines.

　　The university library has been considerably automated with large-scale resources. Printed documents, electronic documents, database and internet sources are becoming more and more perfected. It is especially rich in discipline resources of petroleum and petrochemical engineering and related subjects. The library has 2.13 million volumes of printed books, 0.92 million electronic books, 3,400 printed periodicals and 20,000 electronic periodicals. It has become China's main information center for petroleum and petrochemical engineering, having formed a stock system covering engineering, science, management, arts, law and economics with typical features of petroleum and petrochemical sciences.

　　The library is a complete storage of China's academic periodicals, a database system, and a digital library. It has introduced over 30 petroleum document databases from home and abroad such as CFA, PA, SPE, EBSCO, Elsevier Springer, and API. It has set up a reading room for electronic documents, a computer-searching hall, reading guide system, stock catalogue database, periodical article title database, shared database for college reference rooms, 8 databases and 6 network navigating databases for the university key disciplines.

　　The university library offers such services as lending documents, reviewing electronic documents, disks, searching network database, audio-visual programs, technical service, searching latest scientific achievements, original text copy and inter-library lending, etc.
